~*fighting off the blues with some blue*~

Oh the winter blues are really starting to get to me...the weather has been so awful lately. Snow, pouring rain, freezing temperatures! So I thought I would try to fight the winter blues with a little game of blue! Literally! These are some items around my house that are blue. This is a part of a wall hanging I made with shades of blue fabric. It is hanging in the kitchen.
A little blue pencil holder that hangs on the side of my fridge. I just love the picture of the sheep on it...so primitive and rustic!
Some blue frames on the table next to my bed. I just love how they are all blue gingham but they are all different. You know how I adore gingham!!!
Some blue hearts hanging on the wall of my bedroom. Just a small touch of red with some double wick candles. I have blue in every room of the house so it wasn't hard to find blue, but these are some things that caught my eye today!

~*are you friggin kiddin'?*~

I just found out today that after waiting for the new season of "24" to begin this year I will have to wait another entire year! Why? Because of the writer's strike! I understand Fox's desire to air all the episodes of the show with no interuptions, but hey here is an idea...instead of only 1 one hour episode a night, why not air 2 one hour episodes a night. That way the viewers can catch up on the show and still not have to go into the summer months when Fox is afraid they will lose viewers. I cannot believe they don't think they will lose loyal viewers this way. Dan and I came into this show late. We actually caught this show on the 2nd or 3rd season with a weekend marathon of shows and we have enjoyed it so far, but we don't like to be put off by games and stupid antics. We are almost too fed up to continue watching Lost! I hope that Fox wakes up and decides to do something to appease the fans of "24" because I don't think going an entire year without new episodes is going to be a good choice for their fan base! Just my opinion...but I was pretty right on when it came to what happened with Jericho! And it is back on again this season with all new episodes. I know my TV!!!

~*some snow folks*~

Here are the snowmen that my husband made for me yesterday.
And here is my gazebo all covered in snow! Normally this would be a lovely site for me... but I am really ready for Spring so this is really quite sad! I had already started to plan what I would be planting in those planters and around the rock walls.
Ok dudes, you can hang around for a few days, but then you have to hit the road! You can visit again next year, but please, make sure you visit early and you can stay longer that way!
Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend!

~*snow day*~

We gots lots and lots of snow today....finally, unfortunately I am too sick to take any pictures today, maybe I can get some tomorrow. You know how much I love snow, but really, this time of the year is just too late for me and besides, I can't really enjoy it when I am sick and can't bake cookies and make snowmen! And tomorrow it is supposed to start with more flurries and turn into rain....GREAT!!! I have to get to the market and I need to fill my car with gas. Just what I want to do in that kind of weather. I may have to wait for another day.

~*fighting off the winter blues*~

I am so ready for Spring. The sun is shinning so brightly and I want to open the windows and let the fresh air in but it is bitterly cold out. You know, I have made it clear, that I AM a snow lover, but even snow has it't time, and it's time this year has come and gone, and although we haven't gotten any measurable amount of snow this season, I don't care. I have had enough of the cold and the wind and I am ready for the warm!!! I want to go the the nursery and buy my flower seeds, I want to but on my garden clogs and start digging in the dirt, I want to start taking down my curtains and washing and ironing and preparing the house for the summer....I want to be done with the winter!!! I am having a little bit of a case of winter blues right now and the beautiful sun shine is not making things easier!

~*only 4 weeks until Spring*~

Only 4 weeks until the official start of Spring. I have a meeting this afternoon of the Beautification Committee here in town. I hope we get to start planning for the beautiful gardens around the city. Each year there are more and more gardens added to the city. Since I am no longer at the job from hell I hope to get a garden of my own in the city this year too. As well as adding a few more gardens in my own yard. I also want to add some climbing roses to the side of my porch to hide the hideous faux stucco job the previous owner did. Maybe some shades of pink. Just the thought of Spring just around the corner makes me giddy with the thought of getting out in the gardens...

~*Happy Presidents' Day*~

Happy Presidents' Day! When I was at the job from hell this was one of those "fake holidays" so I thought I would find out a little bit about this holiday.
As the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's actual birthday, February 22 1880. On January 1, 1971 the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February A draft of the Uniform Holidays Bill of 1968 would have renamed the holiday to Presidents' Day to honor both Washington and Lincoln.
In the late 1980s, with a push from advertisers , the term Presidents Day began its public appearance. The theme has expanded the focus of the holiday to honor another President born in February,
Abraham Lincoln, and often other Presidents of the United States. Although Lincoln's birthday, February 12, was never a federal holiday, approximately a dozen state governments have officially renamed their Washington's Birthday observances as "Presidents Day", "Washington and Lincoln Day", or other such designations.

So, there is a little history on Presidents' Day. Really should make you question doing business with someone who would question a Federal holiday that was inacted in 1880 to celebrate one of our founding father's and his contribution to our great country. If you ever want to know more about the job from hell email me and I will give you the specifics.

~*happy Valentine's Day*~

St. Valentine's day today. Thank goodness it has stopped raining. We still got no snow from this big storm, but lots and lots of rain! But today looks pretty dry out there.

I am making a special Valentine's dinner tonight. Tequila lime chicken, guacamole, bean and corn salad and frozen key lime pie. It is a tex mex Valentine's for us! I think this has worked out far better for us than going out to a fancy expensive restaurant and being disappointed. I just have to run out to the store this morning for greeting cards and then I can get to work on my special dinner! Hope you all have a special and lovely Valentine's day!

~*a new snowman*~

I made this little guy today at workshop...we are going to sell him at the bazaar in the fall. I have to make some more of the hats and muffs this week and we will paint up the bulbs and put them all together next week at workshop! This was the first one so he took the longest. I just had to bring him home for a photo shoot! I hadn't been able to get a lot of crafts done while I was at the job from hell so I am really enjoying going to workshop each week, not to mention spending time with my mom! It is a great way to recycle burnt out light bulbs!

~*making my lists*~

Do you see them? They just keep coming! I am so excited. My gardening catalogs. Last year while I was at the job from hell I don't think I even opened them up. But this year I have already dog eared the pages and stared to circle the flowers I want to get seeds for. I know it is not April showers we have been getting but with all the rain I feel like Spring is right around the corner. I am getting the graft paper out to plan where to plant the new flowers and how I will lay out the vegetable garden. I am thinking about what I will plant in the flower pots on the patio. Oh Spring. You cannot come too soon for me. So for now, I can continue to flip through my catalogs and dream of Spring!

~*rain, slush and ice*~

This is our weather today and apparently for the next few days. Now, I have said that I am ready for Spring, and that is ok. We never really got any snow this year. Sad fact, but true. Anyone who knows me knows that I love snow and I love being snowed in, but snow has it's time, and it is not now! But the only time I like rain is overnight and it has to be finished by the time I get up in the morning. I don't mind hearing it on the roof in the summer when the windows are open, knowing the gardens are getting a good watering, but this flooding type rain that is turning into slush and ice has got to go. And then, tonight I get and email from a web friend in Idaho who's yard looks like this:

Come on! Like I said, we got no snow at all this year and now we are getting severe weather alert amounts of freezing rain? I just can't win where the weather is concerned!

~*super duper Tuesday*~

It's primary day here in Connecticut. More and more I am aprreciating the value of the power of my voice with my vote. I am learning so much about my city government and looking forward to becoming more involved. You just can't sit back and complain about things if you are not willing to get involved and help make it better. So even though it is a dreary and dark and rainy day I am getting ready to go out and vote. And I urge you if you have a primary today, regardless of what party you are or who you are voting for-
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!

~*welcome February*~

The month of love, almost the end of winter. I am starting to get my seed catalogs in the mail, puting my list of seeds together, starting to get my garden plan ready. In another month I will get the seed pods ready to plant! But back to February. Mr. Groundhog Day tomorrow to tell us how many more weeks of winter we will have. I know Spring is right around the corner. Valentine's Day is only 2 weeks away! Woo hoo! And it is a leap year, so February gets an extra day this year! Mr. Presidents' Lincoln and Washington have birthdays. At the job from hell we did not observe these as these were considered fake holidays, but now I will be acknowledging them. Fat Tuesday is also Super Duper Tuesday for us here in Connecticut! No matter who you are supporting GET OUT AND VOTE!!!
Welcome February!
