~*the view from above*~

I saw this on another blog and remembered that I had these pictures of my house.
These pictures were taken about 3 years ago.

This large brown patch in the bottom left hand corner above is my veggie garden. Right above that is the rock wall we had made with rocks that were scattered all over the yard. Those tiny white lines you see in front of the wall is my clothes line. That gray patch in front of the garden is a pad of crushed stone where my gazebo is now.
I think it is so neat to see my house from the sky!
Have a great day!

~*a quickie*~

Just a quick post.... today I have to take the window air conditioners out and work on a political blog for someone. I really am taking it easy today, I have a lot to do this week and I don't want to get sick again, so I am not rushing into all my work so as not to have a relapse.
Have a great day!

~*the Old Town Mill*~

Today we went to the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Old Town Mill. It was built in 1650 by John Winthrop Jr, the founder of New London. On September 6, 1781 it was burned down by Benedict Arnold during his raid on the port of New London but was rebuilt soon after.
It has been allowed to deteriorate but recently a group of preservationists began bringing it back to it's glorious state. Today was the ribbon cutting ceremony and the wheel was going to begin turning with the help of the fire department.

Here is my husband with Officer Roger Baker and the Mayor Kevin Cavanagh.
The New London Firefighters Pipes & Drum as the Chief looks on.
And finally the hoses brought the water to the wheel and it began to move. It was neat, really. The water to the brook that fed the flume has long since dried up, but there is a small amount of water in the creek that the fire department pumped onto the new wheel and it slowly turned. What it must have felt like in 1650 when they moved water 200 feet on the flume to make the mill a working success to grind corn, wheat and other grains for the colonists. The building is used today as the home to the New London Neighborhood Alliance, an organization representing the city's many active neighborhood groups. It was a great day, and it was history in the making.
Hope you are all having a great weekend!

~*some yo yo garland*~

Remember these? Well this is what I made with them. I saw this online somewhere and I thought it was such a cute idea I decided to make one of my own. I made several yoyos in green and red and small and large and then laced them together seperated with a crystal bead between the sets. I don't know if you can see the bead.
I used fishing line so it is clear. And it hangs on the tree so lightly. But it is so cute. I think I will use it on my kitchen tree, although that is usually blues and reds. I guess I could make another one in those colors.

So that is what all those yoyos were for. What do you think?
I am feeling a little better. Still have a little congestion, but the sore throat is mostly gone! YAY!
Have a great weekend!

~*still sick*~

I am still sick. I can't work on Watcha workin on Wednesday. I can't post a pretty picture I took. I can't do anything, but climb back in bed and sleep. I am down with this one. My throat hurts so bad I can hardly swallow and my head is pounding so hard I swear there are natives in there playing the war drums. I am out!!! So I am giving up and going back to bed and sleeping this one out. I am supposed to do phone banking tonight for the re-election of my Congressman... I hope I feel well enough to do that, but until then I am sick in bed. Sorry I can't read your blogs today and get caught up on all the neat things you all are doing... but I am sick!!! So, forgive me and I hope I will be back soon.
Have a great day!!!

*~my first by line*~

I got a photo published. Oh how so exciting! Look, that is my name. And they want me to send them more when I have awesome photos and they don't send a staff photographer. Neat, huh? This is actually my second photograph to be printed, but the first time I didn't get a hard copy and they spelled my name wrong!!! This is a screen shot of the online version of the paper.... you can read the article here. It's about my good friend and neighbor Ozzie. He is a great guy and has delicious food.

Have a great day!

~*a busy weekend*~

We went to a charity football game between our city's Police Department and a neighboring city. We won by 2 points. Here are some of my shots from the day, which are already up on their website. I love shooting for them, the are so fun.
And make the best faces!
Action shots are a hit or miss, since I have to follow the football in the air and hope that when if falls I catch something good like this....
Or start at the quarterback and see where that takes me...
But like I said, these guys always make me laugh!!!! They are the greatest guys and the best cops to be patrolling my neighborhood!!!
Then Sunday we went to a church card game where Dan and I came in (don't laugh!) second to last! For prizes we got a Santa hand towel and a pig/shamrock piggy bank! We usually come in 1st or 2nd place, really! It was the worst we ever played with our normal partners....
I have workshop today. 2 weeks until the Bazaar!!! Yay!!! Anyway, I have to run.
Have a great day!

Ok, so last night when Dan got home from work he hooked the new washer up and I started washing. I put my last load in last night (this morning???) at 12:30 (I was up still watching the Red Sox awesome come back) and I am almost caught up on the laundry. I have about 3 more loads to do and then I am caught up on the massive laundry from the last 3 weeks without a washer. This machine has a HUGE tub. I mean HUGE. With no agitator in the center you can really fill it. And like the front loader, you fill the soap, bleach, and fabric softener and go. Like I said, I didn't really want to give up my front loader, but I didn't want to be without a washer again in 5-6 years like I was with the last one, so I did the research to see what I could do. It spins as fast as the front loaders so the laundry comes out almost dry and uses little water like the front is just like a front loader....but it is a top loader. And I don't have to bend over to load and unload...that is a nice thing. I HAVE CLEAN CLOTHES PEOPLE!!! Ok, I can hardly believe I am raving about laundry, but when you do a few loads a day, going weeks without can really be a bother!
I have to go to the grocery store today and then a few other errands today so I have to get going.
Have a great day!!!

~*I am so excited*~

Not too much time to chat this morning, my new washer is finally being delivered. After 3 weeks without one, I am sure you can imagine how much work I have. I was lucky enough to be able to take a couple loads to my brother's house last week, but it was essentials, I have loads of laundry to do and I cannot wait for them to arrive. I have the "between 10-2" window and I am truly hoping they get here closer to 10!!! I went with a Whirlpool Cabrio this time instead of a front loader, I loved my front loader but just read too many complaints about how long they lasted. This is supposed to have a lot of the same features of the front loaders in a top loader, so we shall see.... I will keep you all posted. But for now, I will have clean clothes, towels, bed linens....etc. Oh glorious day!
Have a great day!

~*Whatcha' workin' on Wednesday*~

Well it's time for Leslie's Whatcha Workin on Wednesday again. Here is a stitchery I am working on for a swap. Shhhhh. Don't tell. Maybe Leslie will share her secret to how she grubbies it up after. It is going to be a candle mat so this will be attached to some wool. I am liking stitching. It is simple and easy and relaxing to do while I am watching my BoSox at night. Especially since they are doing so poorly, I have something else to keep me occupied.
This is my finish piece I was working on. Keep or give away?!? I cannot decide! It was fun to do, but as a first definately I know what I like and don't like about it. I wouldn't do such small square again, first they were hard to see, and second they don't showcase the square enough. I would definately do like Leslie did and make each square it's own piece. But it is done and that is a good thing.
Ok, that is all for now.
Have a great day!

~*my husband's TV premiere*~

(click on link to view commercial)
No he is not Joe Courtney, but the man standing in front of the water and the bridge about 22 seconds into the commercial. Remember I told you that we shot a commercial a few weeks back, well, I didn't make the cut but Dan did. And it premiered today. So I thought I would share it all with you. It is rather strange to see it blasted all over the TV screen and the internet, but we are huge supportes of Joe, and so I am glad we were able to do it.

And here is my little stitchery almost finished. I have been so busy I have not really had much time to spend on it, but I only have one side left to sew up and then it is done. Thank goodness. Like I said, I don't think I would do something so small again. I like it well enough, but I think after spending so much time on it I would like it much better if it were bigger. Maybe each square being a seperate piece.... much easier to work on. Ok, I have a bunch of pictures to edit for a cocktail party for the Women's Center I shot last night I have to get done on CD and deliver... so I have to get to work!

Have a great day!

~*Whatcha' workin' on Wednesday*~

Time for Leslie's WWW! Still working on my stitchery. Not much can get accomplished on this with a migraine, so I have not gotten very far. I still need to add the batting, the back then the border. I think it looks good so far.
No update on the washing machine.... but I have not done anymore hand washing. Yup the laundry is piling up... but when it is resolved I guess I will get to that.
I have Beautification Committee today and I need to go the the market today as well, so it is a busy day for me. I am editing photos from a rally and a debate last night. Then I have to email them out to a bunch of different people waiting to add them to their websites... it is never ending!
Have a great day!

~* pumpkins*~

First, thank you all for your get well wishes regarding that nasty migraine. It was a tough one, but I had too much to do to let it get the best of me.
Friday night I appeared on a local TV show regarding my K9 challenge. It was good and any opportunity to get the word out...
My dumb washing machine broke last week and DH and I have been working on either getting it fixed or replacing it. It is a front loader and I love it. It gets the clothes so much cleaner, uses so much less water and my clothes tumble instead of aggitate so it is easier on the clothes, plus they come out of the washer nearly dry which makes the drying time (on the line or in the dryer) so much less. However, the thing died!!! I went and found a new belt which my husband then replaced only to find out that the bearings went as well, so now we are trying to get the manufacturer to stand behind it and fix it or replace it... it is not that old. Unfortunately, I have been stressing over not being able to do laundry which is an every day occurrence in my home... so Saturday I hand washed a few loads of wash! Oh yeah! Give those pioneer women a medal! That sucked! But there is no way I can keep up with the dirty laundry with hand washing, and there are just some items I cannot hand wash. A shirt here and there or some socks are one thing... jeans- just not happening.
The picture above are some pumpkins I made yesterday. They are too cute, aren't they? I think they will do fast at the church bazaar.
Ok, now I have some housework screaming my name and I want to visit all my favorite blogs that I have not had a chance to visit.
Have a great day!

~*new accessories*~

Sorry for my lack of posting.... I have been fighting a migraine and so I have been otherwise occupied. I wanted to show you my new kitchen accessories. Thank you Jo-Anne. They are beautiful and I love them. I have wanted some cozies to cover my rather large and ugly toaster for some time and to cover my coffee maker. After all, they just don't look all that prim do they. But now they do! And I have been playing with decorating with them, although not too much with the head pounding going on. Dan brought me home this cute little pumpkin the other day, isn't it just so darling? And my Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne, of course, since it is all over my kitchen. I wish there was something I could do about that KitchenAid blender and stand mixer, but I use them too often to move them into the pantry and lug them out when I need them. Maybe a cozie type cabinet that fills the whole other side of that counter???? Ok, now I think that is just the drugs talking....
Have a great day!!!
