~* It's pickling time *~

I picked these cucumbers the other day. I have a huge crop, I have been giving some away to keep up with them. So today was the day they became pickles.
I have this really easy, delicious recipe that I use (I actually adapted it a little!)
So here is the result. They have to sit in the fridge for 4 days before they are done, but they are so good. I love them on burgers or sandwiches. And it feels so good making something with the veggies I grew myself.
Hope you are having a good day!

~*Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!!*~

Today is my sweetie's birthday! Happy Birthday!!!

Even though today is going to be busy I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you today and hoping that your day is good!!!
Thanks for all that you do for us. Thanks for taking such good care of us! Thanks for working hard so I can do all the things I want to do.
Thanks for being a good father to our kids and caring what kind of people they become. Thanks for sticking with me through all these years, in good times and bad. For making sure that I always have what I need and for trying to always give me what I want. Thanks for letting me get you a GPS for my car. I will get right on that bead for Christmas. Have a great day, my love! I love you.
Happy Birthday!!!

~*Whatcha workin on Wednesday*~

Time for Leslie's "Whatcha Workin on Wednesday". Today I have several zucchinis that I need to pick, shred and freeze, but I will also be making a few loaves of this deliciousness!!! We like to keep a couple of loaves running in the summer, they make a quick delicious breakfast, a better choice than pop tarts! I love having shredded zucchini frozen in the winter. I just pull it out and whip up a couple loaves. I have a lot of veggies to pick from the garden and these have such a short season you gotta make the most of it.
Plus I get to do a little pampering today.... nail salon appointment.
Hope you all have a great day!

~*a super giveaway*~

They are giving away an Ipod.... oh, I hope it's pink!!!
Click on the picture to get to the site.

~*my bountiful harvest*~

Yup, we grew these babies ourselves. They will become my world famous refrigerator pickles in a few days. The cucumbers this year are doing great, as is the zucchini. I have made a few loaves of bread, some fried and shredded a bunch and froze it for the winter. Nothing like fresh zucchini bread in the middle of winter. I have some eggplant almost ready and a lot of hot peppers. Tomatoes, not so good the last couple of years. I think I will have corn soon, that is absolutely the best, right off the plant into the pot!!! And I think I even have a couple pumpkins on the vine. Last year giant pumpkin was no good for cooking, so I hope these ones stay reasonable sizes.
I hope you are all having a good day!

~* busy busy weekend *~

Oh, this weekend is a blur. It was a scorcher on Saturday when I went to take pictures of my local police officers playing flag football in a Memorial Scholarship event. It was a great day, but HOT HOT HOT!!!
It was a double elimination and unforunately, these guys lost both of their games and were eliminated by 1 pm. It was for a good cause. One of their fellow brothers in blue died of cancer 1 1/2 years ago and the scholorship is one in his name. He was also a High School football star for a neighboring town, he was well known and touced a lot of lives. You can read all about him here.
Sunday was my father's birthday and although it was pouring, thundering and lightening my mother had appetizers planned at her house. It was going to be out on the deck, but moved inside because of weather. Still, the evening with family and friends was fun.
Today is a total clean up day. You know how it is on the weekends, especially when it rains, your house really gets lived in and mine is a mess. I have to get my kitchen back under control and put back in some semblance of order.

Have a great day!!!

I am really busy trying to get caught up on housework and laundry today. With the pool finally filled I need to get some clorine in it and get the pump running and with it raining (pouring) the last couple of days I have not really gotten around to doing much housework. Plus I have been busy with meetings and I have to go take some pictures this weekend... so I need to get my housework done today. I found this cute cartoon and thought how fitting it was. I look at each event that goes on now by how I can blog it... and usually make sure I always have a camera with me so I can have pictures to put on my blog. It's funny how times have changed. I wish the rest of my family had blogs then we could all keep track of what is going on with each other by reading each other's blogs...
Have a great day!

~* Whatcha workin on Wednesday! *~

I picked this mirror up from the thrift store a few months ago...

I really liked the shape but not the stain color.

So in keeping with my new black theme I painted it black and now I love it even more.

I also picked this little cutie up at the same time....of course it needs an updating from the dated "country geese" theme. I had those....and I loved them when I did...but now my style is more on the prim side and those geese will just not make the cut!!!

~*finally we have water *~

Finally, there is water in the pool. It has only taken 10 months to fix the problem and there is still more work to be done. But we have water and yesterday after Dan and I cleaned the shed we were able to go for a relaxing, cooling swim. Ahhhhhhh!!! The deck needs work now that they had to raise the outer edge of the pool, but we don't have to worry about that until the fall when we are ready to close the pool, and the skimmer and the pump need work because they got abused during the repairs, but the pool people will be doing all that. Our work is to enjoy the pool for what is left of the summer!!!

~* a weekend away *~

We went to the New Jersey this weekend.
This is the view from our hotel room onto the Meadowlands.
And there is the stadium where we saw a soccer game.
With this man!!!

It was a great time, we had great food and even better times with friends.
And I saw David Beckham!!!
I am not a huge soccer fan but this really was a fun time and I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

~* a blog award *~

Carolyn over at Cranberry Crossings and Liz at Brown & Hopkins Country Store gave me this award. I am very grateful!

Once an award is received, the rules are as follows:

1.Put the logo on your blog.

2.Add a link to the person who awarded you.

3.Nominate at least seven other blogs.

4.Add links to those blogs on your blog.

5.Leave a message for your nominee on their blogs.

Ok, 7 other blogs that don't have this award is gonna be hard!!!! Most of the blogs I read everyday have already been given this award. I am gonna try really hard to pick some new ones so you all can make some new friends.

My good friend Laurie Ann from Tinker's Piggies, of course. Her blog is full of family and love and lots of funnies, too.

Debbi from ****Prim 'N Stuff**** is a fun read. I love to see what is going on in her home.

Sandy from ***For the LOVE of Prims*** is a great blog. I steal I mean borrow all kinds of decorating ideas from her.

Nancy Jo is a fun blog to read, and there are also some ideas there that I have borrowed (like covering bars of soap with pretty paper for decorating!).

Kate from Our Red House is neat, and since she is in Austrailia she is experiencing fall while we are having a heat wave....neat!

Linda from Parker's Paradise is keeping it real.

and finally....this was really hard....

Lea of Farmhouse Blessings. I just love her new puppy...I want one just like him!!!

~* Whatcha workin on Wednesday! *~

I wish I could post a picture of some nice cute craft or a pretty home improvement/decorating project...but my day today is gonna be filled with laundry and a meeting....

sounds fun, huh? You are probably thinking you wish you had this "to-do" list for today, aren't you? Well, when my 17 yo takes a few showers a day and uses a clean towel every time and then leaves those towels in the hamper in his room, and I have to do 4 loads of towels just to get them all may have this list too. But, I have housework on my list today and so unfortunately this is what I am workin' on today. Sorry Leslie, I wish it could be more interesting around here!!!

~* a blog magazine *~

This is so fun. You can make a magazine cover from your pictures. I thought this was a neat thing to do. I love to write and having a whole magazine filled with all my thoughts and ideas would be fun. Go here and do it yourself.
Still no water in my pool, and I am so frustrated by that. Summer here in New England is a short 3 months and we aren't going to have any real time in the pool this year, by the time they finish fixing it, it will be time to close it up.
The garden is doing well, we have already picked zucchini! Can't wait for that corn, tho!
Have a great day!

~*Whatcha workin on Wednesday*~

For Leslie's Whatcha workin on Wednesday I thought I would show you the progress of yesterday's ornies. They are done and I think they came out adorable. I wanted a kind of snowman garland but I have a ton of snowmen ornies so it couldn't be a large one. I saw something similar to this somewhere and just adapted it to what I wanted.
I can't wait to see how they look on my snowman tree with all the other snowmen ornies.

~*Christmas in July Part 2 *~

So I am working on some more snowmen ornies (big surprise there!!!). I have cut out all these little snow dudes and I will be adding them to the ornies to make a "garland" of snowmen! I can't wait to see how this turns out.

~* finished ornies *~

I finished the snowmen ornies I was working on last week. I finished them off with a crystal bead on the hanger and some crystal glitter flakes on the front.
I am a huge snowman collector and each year I get dozens of new snowmen thanks to my hubby. A couple years ago I started making some ornies of my own.
I think these came out pretty good. I have a few more ideas for this year so I am getting started on my next ones tomorrow for my Christmas in July!

~* pool progress *~

This is my pool. I love my pool. In the humid New England summer days, I can take a dip a couple times a day while I am working outside.
See the wooden sides? Those are pressure treated southern white pine panels. We are having a problem with the sides. The boards are separating, but not at the seams, but in the center of the panels. The pool company has been working on fixing this since last year.
Last month they came and emptied all the water that was in the pool and cut the liner up so they could get to the panels... I have not been a happy pool owner. No water in 2 heat waves!!!!This week the pool guys came and lined the pool with this marine plywood. The new liner will be here sometime this weekend and they are installing it on Monday. Now, filling it with new water, the water temperature will be extremely cold, but in the shoreline sun, with the solar cover on it, we will be able to raise the water temperature to the high 70's, maybe even 80's in a day or two and we will be swimming next week for sure!!! Today I took the opportunity while the liner is out the seal the upper coping since I cannot do that with the liner in. Oh glorious pool water, I can almost feel your refreshingness now!!!
