The irises this year are just spectacular!
While I was working at the beach with beautification even the irises at the beach were just gorgeous!
These are all from my garden. I didn't even plant these. They were here when we moved in, but I kept them and gardened around them, but they have become a focal point in the garden.
This year they are really beautiful. I think I would like to plant some darker ones, you know the ones that are so dark they are almost black? They would look awesome next to these!

~*you have to check these out*~

They are just the cutest aprons I have seen. I love the colors and the styles and since I am a huge apron fan I know you will love them as much as I do. Check them out! I especially like #6. Which one is your fav?

~*a first*~

A pincusion! My first! And I love the way it came out. So cute. So pretty. It is in a 1/2 pint ball jar. I love love love the gingham. I must make more. Nice gifts for gift baskets. You can put thread, buttons, needles, and other notions in the bottom. I really think it is a success. I can see this in many different shapes and sizes depending on the jars.

Have a great weekend!

~*a make-over*~

I've had this mail holder for many many years, going back to my goose country years! It just didn't fit in to my style anymore.
But there was nothing wrong with it, it was still functional. And I still use it daily. So.....
I gave it a little make-over! I don't know why it is showing up shiny in the picture because it isn't. But, it does look a lot better in my kitchen and I am a lot happier with it now. And now it will be used for many many more years!

~*birthday recap*~

I had a lovely day yesterday. We went out to dinner at Hanifan's Irish Pub. One of our fav's. It was nice. Then when we got home Dan had invited family and some friends over for some cake, which I did not get a picture of because I did not know anyone was coming over.
I got 2 more beads for my bracelet! It is coming along nicely, isn't it?
My friend Mary gave me this Willow Tree "friends" plaque that I adore!
And my brother, sister-in-law and nephew gave me this gift card! I am planning on getting a flash so this will come in handy towards that!
Overall it was a nice birthday, and I am a very lucky and loved woman!

~*part duex*~

I just got home from breakfast (yes that is right) of poached eggs (she made them all by herself) at my daughter's. She gave me these lovely flowers and we had a nice visit for my birthday. Glad my mom and I put off having lunch today, that would have been too much with the nice breakfast Krista made me. Now I have to relax and take it easy as my back is still killing me, I really did too much yesterday. I may need to just do some crafts today and leave the housework till tomorrow and see what surprises the rest of my birthday brings!

~*they say it's your birthday*~

I am having coffee at my daughter's this morning and then my mother is taking me out to lunch. Oh happy days!!! I may not have to do a thing all day! I even got a birthday kiss from my 17 yo son this morning before he went to school. WOW! I am so sore today from all that work out in the garden yesterday! My back especially. I have to learn that I am not as young and I used to be and pace myself, but I see a job that has to be done and I want to finish it. Ok, I am off to a birthday breakfast (ok, probably just coffee) at my daughter's!
Have a great day!

~*a magazine box*~

I have so many magazines, and I cannot seem to throw any of them away. Each year I try to go through them all and downsize, only to put one or two in the recycle bin. I needed another magazine rack, but wanted something substantial and of course, something that fit in with my style. I saw this box at the thrift store the other day and saw it's potential. I knew it just needed a good cleaning and some paint. And sure enough here it is all nice and pretty~
It is of course already filled with country homes and cooking magazines. But at least they are not all piled up on my coffee table. Yay! I decided to go with my favorite color- blue- this time and I like it against the rug and burgundy chair. And I can't paint every piece of furniture in this house black! Ha!

~*candle shelf*~

Picked this sweet candle shelf up at the thrift store yesterday. Argh, I forgot to take a before picture, but it was a dark wood stain and I painted it black. I got a couple other goodies that I need to refinish as well, but those are for another post!
I think this is so cute, it is in the corner of my kitchen. I am really loving black lately!

~*before and after*~

I am not really sure where this shelf came from. Dan got it for me some time ago, maybe from a yard sale, flea market, someone throwing it away, but it was tucked away in a corner of my closet and while I was cleaning out a box of photo albums yesterday I found it and thought of the perfect use for it. So I dusted it off, painted it and VOILA!

I would like to make a large strawberry pin cushion to hang off the bottom bar when I hang it on the wall when I move the sewing machine to the craft room/spare bedroom when I finish that room up. I love the way it came out. The licorice black paint is perfect, and now I can see all the colors of the threads without having to dig around in the drawer of the machine to find the color I need. A great T2T project!!!

~*a gift*~

This is my Mother's day gift from my daughter, Krista. She knows me so well, doesn't she. The colors, the style, the words. It is perfect and I had an empty door molding screaming for a sign and it was a perfect fit!!! Thank you sweet pea!! I love it and I love you.

Wow, what a haul. I don't have any idea what I am going to do with that ric-rac but when I do I have a bunch in lot of colors and sizes to work with and a bunch of new fabric to use for crafts!!!

~*a few new cards*~

I am having such fun making these cards. I cannot believe how fast they are selling. But they are! And with Mother's Day and the end of the school year I can see why. They are so cute! I am working on designing some baby ones and a Valentine's one as well as some of the upcoming holiday ones.
I am learning to make the heart shape yo-yos. I think they will come in handy for the Valentine's and for St. Patrick's to make a shamrock. Also, who doesn't just love a heart!

~*some more cards*~

I made some Mother's Day Cards today. I think they came out sooo cute.
They have some Mother's Day poems inside.
This one is for Dan's mom.
And this one is for my mom. These yo-yos are really tiny.
This is the size of a 1/4 sheet of paper.
Dan gave Krista this embosser a few years ago but she didn't take it when she moved out, so I thought I would give it a try and I really like how it came out. I may bring it to workshop on Monday with me and see how the ladies like how it works. It was so simple, really but it adds a little more of special touch to homemade cards.

~*happy May day*~

I neglected my gardens so badly while I was at the job from hell. I also neglected to take a picture before I started weeding today. But I spent several hours in this garden today. The weeds were very bad and the flowers had spread all over each other.
I think I have gotten them pretty much in control now. I need bags more mulch. I use black. It looks great against the house. Very dramatic!
May is one of my favorite months. Mother's day and my birthday, plus it is really the month I start gardening and getting the yard into shape! And it is when it really starts to get warm around here.
Hope you all have a happy May day!!!
