So close but yet so far

Last night's came was a nail biter! I cannot believe with bases loaded and so much on the line the Sox couldn't score at least one more run to was an important game...hopefully they can score on the Twins tonight!

Ok, so I read somewhere that Wednesday, September 26th is Johnny Appleseed Day! Hum, I went apple picking at just the right time then. I love to bake and having some fresh fruit to bake with is so nice, so I will enjoy the fresh apples. I need to get some pumpkins and gourds for decorating the diningroom table and soon enough the bittersweet will be ripe and I will be harvest a huge bunch to decorate my diningroom light. It is just wrought iron and while I have some imitation berry candles wreaths, nothing is quiet as nice as real. I am also on the hunt for pine cones and acorns. I am looking for lots of small ones to make garland with and a bagful of large ones to use in my decorating. I can never seem to remember where I saw them last year to remember where to go this year...but I am going to put the word out that I am on a search! I also like to collect berries of all kinds to use in my decorating schemes. I use the dehydrator to get them nice and dry and then they will last a long time. I can also use crab apples...don't know where I can get any of those right now either...oh well. I guess Dan and I will have to take different routes on our walks to find the items on my wish lists!
Ok, happy fall!

There goes Johnny Appleseed

What a relaxing day we had today. We took a scenic ride upstate and it was beautiful, the weather was perfect and the ride was nice and relaxing. Then we had lunch at a nice little pizza place that we don't too often get to go to's a bit of a ride, but it was on the way home from the drive. Then we went to the orchard and picked apples.

My take from the Orchard....oh the pie and butter you will become~

How are your crops?

I mentioned before about the corn, my pumpkins and the tomatos (or lack there of this season!) but I don't think I have told you about my peppers. Each year our pepper crop grows, this year we had 4 rows of peppers and they are ready for harvesting. We have so many hot peppers each year...I roast them, make salsa, chop and freeze, freeze whole and dehydrate. In addition we give plenty away.
Today I made another HUGE batch of salsa and we have been dehydrating them like crazy. The whole house smells like hot peppers.
Dan told me that if you turn a habenero upside down it looks like a flame....a indication of the heat maybe??? Take a look for yourself...
p.s. deyhdrated peppers are great for things like chilli and sauces (like for buffalo wings) that you want to add heat to, just make your dish as you would then add the dried peppers, and heat. As it heats up the dried peppers release their oils which is where all the heat is... it really gives your dish a kick! 8-1 win...

So the Sox win 8-1 over Tampa Bay and
the Stankees lose 4-5 to the Blue Jays
Seems right to me!

the shore at night

The moon- like you couldn't tell what that was! Dan's footprints in the sand! Just after the sun set...the color was just gorgeous!

Random Show & Tell

This is a random show and tell for today. I actually made this (OK, well not actually made, but painted and brought to the ceramic shop to be fired and then picked up and brought home kind of made!) many many years ago before Dan and I were married. It has withstood 2 small children running around, 2 moves and several "I don't really know if I like that anymore!" moments. It has some imperfections, but then, don't we all? I guess it has earned it's place on my Shaker table!

My Anniversary gift

Have you heard of those Pandora bracelets? Well, this is similar. It is called Troll Beads ( and the concept is the same (and pandora beads fit on these bracelets, but no the other way around!). Beads/charms for special events, occasions, birthday, zodiac, whatever. I picked out the clasp and a whole bunch of beads for Dan to choose from. He picked out some winners. A lucky knot, a snowman (anyone who knows me knows how much I love snowmen!!!) and a heart (since it was our anniversary and I LOVE HEARTS!!) Now he can get me charms/beads whenever. I love it and have only taken it off to take this picture!
Can't wait to see what my next bead will be!

Tagged again!

Ok, I was tagged by Kellie at to do a middle name meme!

Here are the rules: You have to post these rules on your blog. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you do not have a middle name, choose one you would like to have. When tagged, write your own blog post containing your middle name facts. At the end, choose one person to tag for each letter of your middle name. Then leave them a comment telling them they have been tagged.

Here goes.

Family- so important to me...I love living close to my parents and siblings. My daughter also lives in the same town as me so she is not too far away! I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my family around. We have needed them and they have needed us more times than I can count.

Love- giving and receiving. I am very lucky to have such a wonderful man as my husband and father to my children. He loves me and he is the love of my life. We met when I was very down on myself after a divorce from an abusive marriage and he has proven to me that real men don't need to hurt the women they love.

Orange Milanos. Need I say more. I have a great recipe that mimicks these cookies and I bake them at Christmas time. I should bake them more, but I like that it keeps them special.

Reality shows..not so much a big fan except Big Brother and RockStar...I don't really care for all the others...maybe Kid Nation this season, tho. I will have to wait and see how the first episode goes.

Evenings- I wish my evenings were more productive and organized. I always feel rushed at the end of the day and I feel that I never get enough accomplished. Sometimes I am so tired I go to bed as soon as the dishes are done from dinner (if I am lucky we used paper plates!).

Nice- I try to be nice all the time, I think that is important...and it goes a long way. If you are walking down the street how hard is it really to acknowledge another person and say "hello"? Or when you are walking in a building and someone holds the door open for you or you hold it for someone else, say "thank-you" or "you're welcome". And even in the drive thru I say "please". It is just the right thing to do and not many people do it anymore. It is my pet when you are in the market and the cashier doesn't even acknowledge you in her lane and continues talking about her boyfriend/best friend to the neighboring cashier...really frosts me!

Creative- I try to be. When I see something I like I see if it is something I can make myself or with Dan's help. The sense of pride that comes from making it myself and the fact that it is for the most part better made, is immeasurable. We have some neat shelfs and cabinets and stuff due to things I have seen and then re-created at home, as well as lots of decorative things I have made from a picture I may have seen. With Dan's help I will try to create matter how hard it may look at first.

Enough- as in enough is enough. Really, that I have enough in my life. I really have a good life, it wasn't always that way, but we have worked hard to get where we are in life and that is that we have enough of all the things we need. That said...I do have a Christmas wish list....

Ok, there you go, kinda lame answers but that is all I can do with a middle name like that...actually, I was named after both of my grandmothers so this name is my mom's mother's name. What's a girl to do?

I am gonna tag:

Are you ready???

New, new, new

This is Matthew on Labor Day at the picnic at my parents, not too bad, but his hair is a little long (ok, too long for me, I don't like long hair on boys) So I took Matthew for a haircut yesterday because we have a party this weekend and he needed to get cleaned up.
This is him this morning. Ignore the grumpy face, he is tired as he is most mornings as he gets out of bed 5 minutes before he leaves for school. He choose this haircut himself, I am so proud that he went short, he looks so much better with short hair. He was cursed with my thick hair and it is difficult enough to take care of for a woman nevermind a young man.
On another note, I am playing around with black & white photos. I need to have PhotoShop installed on my computer so I can do a lot of neat things to my pictures.

I was tagged by Carolyn over at to list 7 random things about me and here are the rules: I must post the rules, then list 7 random things about me and then tag 7 others to do the same by leaving them a comment.

Uh, everything about me is random but here goes.

I used to hate drinking coffee, now I love it!
I am the Queen of my own castle.
I am named after both of my grandmothers.
I can type with my eyes closed.
I love blue and red is a close second.
I cried at the end of Born Free!
I was a Girl Scout all through my childhood, and made First Class.

How was that for random!

Remembering September 11th

You may not recall anything about this day prior to hearing the news...but I am sure you can remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you learned of this tragedy. I had just returned home from the gym when I turned on the TV to catch the morning news and from that moment on for the next several days I was clued to the TV news. I can feel that deep saddness still when I recall this day as if it were yesterday!

Making an appearance

Bella is making a surprise visit to my blog today...she doesn't think she gets enough screen time here and she wants to even things out. So, here she is. Getting some time here on the blog...I think she is a little bit of a camera hog...when I pull out the camera she comes running.

Attention! Attention Please. I have an urgent announcement!

Only 107 days until Christmas...OMGosh!
I wanna make some pine cone garland this year...gotta look for tiny pine cones!

If you have been reading my blog for some time now (thank you!) you know that I love snowmen! I have a tree in my diningroom at Christmas that has just snowmen ornaments on it and it is full. I have snowmen all over the house...but that is Christmas time. This is my everyday coffee cup. I have my morning coffee in it and my evening tea (my new favorite-Stash pomegranate raspberry green tea). I know it is not close to Christmas or even winter time yet, but I love this cup. I have 2 snowmen mugs that I keep out all year but this one is my favorite.

Hello Fall

And even when the trees have just surrendered
To the harvest time
Forfeiting their leaves in late September
And sending us inside
Still I notice You when change begins
And I am braced for colder winds
I will offer thanks for what has been and was to come
You are autumn
