Whew, busy weekend here. First, my adorable, still sexy at 50 husband had a birthday and we celebrated with a huge bar-b-q at our house. I was freaking all week because it was supposed to thunder storm on Saturday and I had 30-40 people coming to my house for a cook-out/ pool party!!! Luckily, the weather held out until Saturday night, then we had a little bit of thunder and that was it.

Sunday we took my father out to dinner for his birthday. We went to one of my favorite restaurants. The food was not as good as it usually is, but the company was. Here is my nephew with Dan's glasses on, since he needed them since he was doing something "scientific" amd asked him if he could use them. Too cute!!!

But the evening was about celebrating my dad's birthday and that we did, with my parents, my husband, my son, my brother and his wife, Ruth and my nephew Sam!! Great time, even if we didn't have the best meal!

Today I am not feeling my best. Had to leave work early and I am only posting this because I thought the picture of my nephew was just too darn cute!!!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today is my Dad's birthday~ Happy Birthday Daddy! My dad is a great guy. He can fix anything. He can make anything. He knows everything. He turns 72 today! I am so thankful for my dad. He is funny and strong. He is very protective of his family. He is a kind man! Generous and loyal. He is very patriotic. He showed me what a husband and father is supposed to be. (Ok, I may have gotten it wrong the first time around, but this time I got a great one!!) Today I celebrate him. And this weekend I will celebrate with him again when we take him out to dinner. Happy Birthday Daddy!!!

There's a special kind of closenessthat only families know,

That begins with childhood trustand deepens as you grow.

There's a special kind of happinessin sharing little things,

The laughter, smiles, and quiet talksthat daily living brings.

There's a special kind of comfortin knowing your family's there,

To back you up, to cheer you upto understand and care.

Of all the treasures life may bring, your family means the most,

And whether near or far apart,

That love will hold you close.

Workspace Wednesday

Yup, this is my workspace, this is my desk. It is neutral. I dislike neutral. What is not to like about it you ask? Well, first, the color. I enjoy color! And since I face a corner I see nothing! I have no bulletin board to place family pictures, pretty pictures or anything. I have no pretty flowers or a fish or even a plant! Most of the office is decorated very nicely, exceptionally nice! Except my little corner. I need some ideas on how to make my little space colorful. Fun. Pretty!!! I don't have much room for anything here, and what room I do have is shared on one side. So this is it! Not much to see here, is there? Can you see my monitor? I changed the desktop wallpaper to be blue plaid. That is the most personalizing I have been able to do here. Oh, and a picture of my kids in the mouse pad! My husband gave my a clear standing picture frame, but I don't have it up yet as I have to find just the right picture to put in it! Maybe I can find a pretty calendar and hang it on the wall next to my desk!

I was reminded recently of a TV series I just loved. thirtysomething was "my show"! And this was long before I had a VCR let alone a DVR so recording this show was not an option, so I had to make sure that I was home on Tuesday nights so I wouldn't miss it. I felt like my life was running parallel to Hope & Michaels, except that I was 10 years behind them. I wanted the big house (a fixer upper!!!) with a long staircase and a diningroom big enough to hold my large extended family. I cried with Hope when she miscarried, having just experienced the same, and when Gary died. I loved watching them work on their never ending "handyman special" house. And then it was over. I never really felt like the ending was was put together too quickly and characters that I felt I had grown to know were not portrayed as they had been, it left too many questions unanswered.

There is talk of a DVD series, and it will be on my wish list. I would like to visit the Steadmans again. See how Michael and Hope have survived after years of marriage, teenage years with Janey and Leo. See if Nancy and Elliot were able to hold their marriage together, see if Nancy remained cancer free, and see if Melissa ever found love. A reunion would be nice too, to answer those questions. Being the eternal romantic I believe that Michael & Hope are blissfully happy, so are Elliot & Nancy. And did the Steadmans finish working on their house...

Can you believe someone was throwing it away?

While taking a walk last evening we came across a pile of things a neighbor was throwing out (they are moving) and amongst the items was this lamp. At first I didn't even see it, Dan asked it I wanted a lamp and I just saw some oriental pottery and thought that was the lamp he was asking about. He lifted up a few pieces and I saw it. This beautiful blue spongeware oil lamp. Eureka!!! What a find. Good thing he noticed it. I don't think the chimney is original so I will have to look for one the matches better, but what a find!!!

A nice, sweet woman lost her battle with cancer this weekend. I only knew her for a short 8 months but in that time she was so nice and friendly to me, and even though she was going through something very difficult she was always in a positive, good mood. She was an agent in my office. I feel so sorry for her children and grandchildren that she is no longer in their lives. Everyone in the office is stunned by her loss, we didn't expect it to happen so soon. It reminds me that life really is just too short...

Oh my friend, Getty!

Took Matthew to see Rush Monday night at Mohegan Sun. It was a great show. You know how some bands just are not good live? Well, Rush is not one of those bands, they put on a great show. They interacted with the audience and really cared about the show you were seeing. Great fun. Late, though. We didn't get home till almost midnight! And I had to work the next morning, so Tuesday I was quite tired. But I would do it again to see the look on my son's face! Priceless!!!!

rain, rain go away, come again another day

The sky opened today and the rain was so heavy and the thunder was so, I know that the rain is really good for the gardens and the lawn, but why can't it rain overnight when I don't have to try to run out to my car from work in a short sleeve shirt and no umbrella?!?! I really don't like when it rains when I am not at home safe in my jammies!!!

I have been cranking these babies out all week. I can easily make a few a night and I have been using up all my leftovers making them. I was able to make entire dishcloths out of balls of leftovers. My DH even asked me last night "just how many dishcloths do we need?". He is so sweet, silly man...these are a commodity!!!!

what's growing around here...

Happy July already!!! Wow, this year is going by so fast!!! This is what's growing around here in my gardens...

Ok, so Lily isn't growing in my gardens, but she is so glad it is summer and she gets lots of sweet greens (we call them weeds, but she is more than happy to take care of them for me!) to eat. Sweet Lily. She's so pretty, isn't she?
