Buh bye May....

Wow, May is over...the time is going so fast. The vegetable garden is almost all planted, I just need to get the peppers in...and that will be done this Saturday, and then I just need a few more herb plants and I am done!!! Summer will be in full swing shortly. The pool is open and the grill has been going. And I have to start planning our annual big summer bar-b-q! We have a huge summer party at our home to celebrate Dan's birthday at the end of July and all our family and friends come over and spend the day swimming, eating and chatting. It is a huge event that we host and each year it gets bigger and bigger. I can hardly wait... So much to do before then. We need to finish building our back steps off our porch, move the stairs off the pool deck and run electrcity out to the gazebo (and get some furniture in there!!!). But we are getting there. The to-do list never seems to get smaller, tho, does it? Well, I am off to get some laundry done, that is another job that never seems to caught up on, huh!?! Oh well, at least it was a short week at work so that the weekend is here quick!!!

Well, here is my progress so far, it's coming along nicely I think! I think I will go with a solid white border to finish it off. I may make one for my daughter's new apartment!

I do love the way it is turning out! Nothing like a handmade blanket!!!

this little corner

I love this cute little corner of my kitchen (minus the ugly flooring!!). I have these deep window sills that I have lined with tiles (terra cotta in the kitchen) and that I am able to keep lots of plants on. It also houses my butter churn which I have not yet used to make butter with, but love the look of it. This window overlooks my flower garden and driveway- I can see my flowers and also anyone coming to visit me... And even though it is a little different arrangement for a kitchen I love the old fashioned-ness of the kitchen. Hanging in front of the window is a "witch's ball" that my sister-in-law gave to me one year. I know you cannot see it very well, but it has special meaning coming from family. I also have a little hook with dried lavendar from my garden hanging. I love the smell it gives off whenever the breeze blows past it. And of course my kitchen towels and hooks are there. I love kitchen linens, don't know why but I do, and I love that they are not hidden away inside the cabinets but able to be seen. The kitchen is the room most used by my family and no matter how much room I have in other rooms or what is going on where, people seem to gather here in my kitchen.

Are you lost?

Ok, can we just be honest for a second...there really are no answers, are there? The writers have no idea what the story is, do they? The more I watch this show, the more confusing it becomes, and the more convoluted it is. Now were are having future flashes??? Does that mean that they do get rescued from the island? Or is that just a tease??? I hate this show. I want some answers. Like what about Walt! Was he real or just a ghost. And if he wasn't really there on the island, where did he and his dad go? And what about Jacob, who the heck is he? And where do the "others" get their food and items that were in their homes from, did the submarine go shopping for them? It just keeps twisting and turning, this story, and I want to start getting some answers!!!

How do you spell AWESOME?

I spell it "surprise birthday party". It was a blast. I was shocked and surprised and had a great time with family and friends. Dan really pulled one over on me!!!

A few months back I sent my mom this picture and asked her if she could make me one.I thought we would go out and pick out the fabric and we would make it together. I never heard anything more about it and so I thought it would be a next Easter project, that she was just too busy to get to this...until I unwrapped this at my surprise party:

OMGosh was I surprised and excited to see my carrot runner, so perfect. She did it, and she kept it as a surprise and it was an awesome one. I wish it was Easter all over again just so I could display this table runner!!! Oh heck, I am displaying it right now, and I don't care that it is the middle of May!!!

I had a great time with my family and friends and it was all thanks to this man!!!

Thanks honey!!!! It was great and you did surprise me afterall!!

this little light of mine

Found this little beauty at the VFW "Support Our Troops" yard sale. Needs a better bulb and maybe a different shade. But, I LOVE IT!!! I just love tin, and this double tiered candle stick lamp sure is a keeper!!! Maybe a checkered shade, what do ya' think?

They say it's your birthday!

Happy Birthday to me. Sights from around my gardens this morning....

My co-workers...

This is Janet. She is the Receptionist/ Office Coordinator. She keeps the Agents in line! She also fields those nasty calls, for me too. She is our first line of defense!!! She also tell me where we are having lunch!!!

This is Kathy. She is the Bookkeeper/ Office Coordinator for the Danielson office. She makes sure everyone gets paid...especially me...since I can't remember pay day to save my life. She didn't let me take her picture today so I am going to post the 2 that I was able to snap while she wasn't looking.

So there you have it.
These are "the girls"!

You know summer is on the way...

There's no denying that this is "the" summer shack! Love those foot long dogs, and the fries are great! Not to mention, sitting on the patio looking out over the water is just heaven! Yes, I have been coming here since...well, see the date on that sign...not too much later than that!!! It has become a bit more crowed and the kids behind the counter a bit younger looking (or am I just getting older???) but we still love coming here and now it is a fav of my kids too! Yes, summer is just on the horizon. Matthew and I had dinner here tonight!

Another flower close up!

I said I need new subjects to photograph!!!!

Finally KitchenAid sent my new coffee grinder. I have been waiting for weeks and it was supposed to be shipped out the week before last, but it somehow was "forgotten" and then I got it yesterday, boxed the broken one right back up in the box and gave it to the UPS guy at work today!!! I really like the blue. This is called "willow blue" and it really goes a lot better with my kitchen decor than the red did (because the red was a really bright red!!!). This one has all kinds of changes to it that I think make it a better model. And I am so glad to have freshly ground coffee beans for my morning coffee. I was starting to think maybe we should go with a Krups grinder but KitchenAid finally came thru!!! Good thing since I have a ton of KitchenAid appliances and I didn't want to start over!!! And the coffee was sooooooo good this morning!!!

Can you see the difference???

This is a picture I took with my Sony Cybershot:

And this is with my Nikon D40 with the wide angle setting from the same place:

Granted the light in on in the second one and the table setting is different, but that is not the real difference. The real difference is that you get a real sence of the whole room instead of the feeling of a tunnel like the first one. Now don't get me wrong, I love my Sony for point and click pictures that don't have any special needs (wide angle, close up, stop action) but I am really loving my Nikon. It really does take great pictures! Now if I can just get better subjects other than my house!!!! And the residents of this house have requested that I stop taking their pictures! I don't understand what the problem is there! LOL! I think I may need to start hunting for new subjects!

My Amish collection...

I love my collection...I'd love to aquire a whole bunch of Amish bonnets...and aprons. I don't know if you can tell but the crocks have Amish people painted on them. I'd love to visit Amish country and take a whole bunch of pictures to turn into artwork! Oh, to dream. Until then, whenever I see an Amish doll, I want to buy it...or someone buys them for me...and these are just part of my collection.

and the battle continues...

The enemy?

Dan's mortal enemy- the dandilion! Yes, he picks, he pulls, he sprays and we use a special fertilizer that kills them at their roots, and still, this is the view from over the rock wall of our yard. They are every where around us. No one seems to care that letting their dandilions live keeps him up at night or gives him nightmares!!! He dreams up ways to kill them. And to make matter worse, the woman across the street eats and cooks with them so she likes that they are growing everywhere.

And it is all out war when they look like this:

Happy Mother's Day

I heard this in the movie "Spanglish" and thought it really is fitting for most women who have children. They become their mothers. And I have become mine. So on this day to honor mothers I wanted to honor my mother by saying that she did such a great job raising me and turning me into a great mom!!! I love you mom, Happy Mother's Day!!!

Some much needed yard work today

And everyone helped, including Bella. The vegetable garden was all tilled and next weekend we will be ready to add the plants. I also fertilized the lawn so we should be having less of those nasty dandilions......and we should be getting greened up here, too. I need to go to the nursery and get my hanging basket flowers and my container flowers. I want to go with all pink this year. I also want to get some climbing rose bushes in pink for on the side of the porch!!! We'll see how much I get done this Spring to see how full my gardens and containers are this Summer....

Confirmation went off without a hitch yesterday! Thank goodness. I am loving this new camera so much. I snapped that 1st picture in the church with NO flash from many rows back! It's great, isn't it? And the cake- why it's chocolate filled! Yea, Matthew wanted a chocolate filled cake (not an ice cream cake) and so after many phone calls to many bakeries I found this one at BigY!!! And at a much better price than a regular bakery. And of course, the house was full of family and friends after the service. Matthew made out well in gifts (he got all $$)!! Now I can think about that aweome Mother's Day breakfast tomorrow. And it looks like I am going to be spending it with both of my kids!! Yay!!! And my mother! I made her a neat little gift this year, I will post it tomorrow after breakfast. I got the idea after watching the movie "Spanglish". So, I can hardly wait to see her reaction. And I will be bringing my new camera so that I can take lots of pictures of the family breakfast. A day of pampering for mom! Oh yeah!!!

Mother's Day and birthday gift

Yep, Dan got me this awesome Nikon D40 and I have been snapping away ever since. He also got me a great lense that lets me get up close (see my new header!!!) without getting fuzzy like my Sony Cybershot did. While the Sony was great to throw in my purse and take along with me I could not get really close up pictures without them becoming fuzzy and that was frustrating! So, Dan went on a search to find me the perfect camera so I could become a world famous photog! And this is what he got me. I took some pictures of my dining room in comparison in the wide angle and boy what a difference! So, now I can take all those pictures that are crying to be taken with my super new special awesome camera that will make me take better pictures!!! Thanks honey! You are the best.

This little house...

Dan and I went for a walk after dinner around the neighborhood and I just had to snap a quick pic of this cute house. I love it. The owners always make it look so cute. Right now there is a basket of flowers on the front door, but in the fall there are pumpkins over the door and in the winter candles in all the windows. And I just adore the picket fence. It is so nice to see people still caring about the way their homes look. This one looks a bit old fashioned as well, which suits me just fine!!! So, I am showcasing it here!!! Enjoy!

Ahhhhh~ clean cars!!!

Look at the tulips lined up like little soldiers! They are so cute! So much work is needed on the gardens this weekend. I will try and take some before and after shots. Still trying to get caught up on the never ending laundry!!! But at least the day is bright and sunny and warm so I can make use of the clothesline!! Went out to dinner last night with my sweetie while our baby was at the movies with his friends. A taste of when we become empty nesters! Well, I am off to get some chores done and get to those gardens....more to come later.

p.s. If you want to leave a comment...leave your I know who you are!

May is here!! Yea! Mother's Day... my birthday... real Spring!!! Warm weather... cooking out... driving with the top off more...longer days...I love May! I love the fall, too. But May brings the blooming of lots of things around here. The tulips have starting blooming as well as my new Weeping Cherry tree that my guys gave me last year and it was just out of bloom when it arrived here, so this is the first time I have had a chance to see it in bloom. I love it!!! This weekend is going to be a gardening weekend for sure. I need to do some cleaning of those beds and there are some spots that need more mulch. And weeding!!! Why do only the weeds grow in the winter??? So that is the plan! And maybe a trip to the Garden Center for some's never too early to get those hanging baskets going...and I have put my request for Mother's Day climbing rose bushes to plant against the porch! That will be a sight! As well as helping to cover the mess the old owners made of the side of the porch. But with a nice trellis and a few pretty pink blooming climbers it will be well hidden! Pictures of that project as it progresses!!!
