Merry Christmas eve.....

Went to my brother's last night for dinner and to exchange gifts. It is so fun because my nephew is only 4 and Christmas and gifts are so exciting for him. This was one of them and he was so cute wearing it.... Well, I still have a ton of things to do for tomorrow! Happy Holidays!!!!

Twas the night before the night before.....

I just love this picture of my diningroom/snowman tree without the flash! It makes it look so warm and welcoming. I love this tree. It holds all my snowmen ornaments and it is in my diningroom that I love with these apple red walls! I am spending today finishing up a little bit of wrapping, and cleaning for the holidays! It really is my most favorite time of the year.

Merry Christmas to me!

Yea! Finally my new kitchen island and stools arrived today!!! We bought them way back on Oct. 8th, but the top was specially made and the distressing had to be done!!! I just burst into a smile whenever I walk into my kitchen!!!

p.s. please ignore the ugly floor that we have just not had to time to pull up and refinish the hardwood underneath!!!!

My "baby" is 16!!!

My baby boy, who I loving rocked to sleep night after night as a baby, turned 16 on Sunday. I can hardly believe it. It just seems like yesterday that my children were small and still wanted to eat whatever was on my plate, even though they had the same thing on theirs, who believed in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy, are nearly grown people. Where does the time go?? Our lives have changed so much since our children were born, but they are still the center of my world!!!

Happy Birthday Matt!!!!

New Connecticut signs!!!

Yea it's here!!!!

Finally, my gazeboo has arrived. Now, I am aware that it is too cold to use it and the power has not even been run out to it and won't be until next spring, but it is here and I love it. I can already see Dan and I sitting out there next summer and drinking our wine and feeling the warm shoreline breeze, BUG FREE!!!!!

1 year~ Woo Hoo

It's been a year since I started this blog. While I get a lot of traffic (so the counter says) I don't get a lot of comments. Ok, I'd like to think people are stopping by to see what's going on and then get called away on an emergency! Crazy? Is it? Ok, so for today I am going to post a picture of my almost finished kitchen Christmas tree. I still need to get the ornies from the attic but I like the way it is coming out so far. If you do too, let me know! Ok?

Pumpkin pound cake with egg nog frosting. Of course, the boys wouldn't wait until the cake fully cooled until they wanted me to frost it so they could eat it so the frosting melted a bit, but it was delish!!!!!

Another room done!

Ok, so the master bedroom is done. Since this house is so old there is no insulation behind the walls, but on the other floors, since the rock is 20" thick it doesn't really matter. Upstairs, though, is only plaster and siding, so Dan and I needed to rip out the outside walls, then Dan ran electrical, cable and phone wires and insulated. My brother, Tim, my dad and I knocked out the sheetrock in half a day, then I mudded, painted and my mom and I hung wall paper. I love the way it looks and I am soooo glad it is done!!!

The backyard project is done.

So here are the finished projects. A retaining wall behind the pool. And a serpentine rock retaining wall across the yard that will be the base for the new gazebo. Our mason's are really the best and they are perfectionists so these walls are perfect!!!! I love the way it makes the yard look formal and finished. Doesn't the pool look like a giant hot tub???

Sort of like this, but of course, it would be more natural looking and I will be adding some creeping phlox to the front of the wall and some flowers around the gazebo!!!

Did you ever meet anyone famous??

These are from a few years ago at Bash at the Base. My husband got us backstage passes!! Yea!!! That's Lionel Ritchie, Joey McIntyre, Leanne Womack and Brooke Allison. My son was too busy schmoozing in the trailer with Mya to get his picture taken!!!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!

I know, it's not birthday cake. Well, I don't do birthday cake. Ever since I was a little girl I have had lemon meringue pie for my birthdays. And since my mother is busy today and cannot make me one (She makes the absolute best lemon meringue pie!!!) I decided to get one for myself. Ok, so it's just a picture of one, but since I cannot make pie crust to save my life, this is the best I can do and better have a picture of one that looks a delicious as the one my mom makes than attempt to make one or worse yet, to (dare I say it) buy one and be disappointed. So this is my birthday lemon meringue pie!!!!

Mother's Day and some good finds

Mother's Day was very nice. We went to dinner at Angelina's in Mansfield. It's one of my favorite restaurants. We had dinner with my parents and my brother Tim and his wife Ruth and their son Sam. My daughter gave me the candle holder above. I love blue glass and she knows me so well. Dan got me the batter bowl in my Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne pattern for my obsession, I mean collection! It was nice and relaxing and I thorougly enjoyed myself as well as having a meal for the next 2 days!!!
I found these lovely pieces at a local thrift shop and so, they must be added to the collection!!! I can't pass up a good find!!!

They say your home is your castle....

Here is my castle...and my flower gardens. We went with a new mulch this! And I kinda like it. It really makes the gardens stand out. When the garden is is full bloom it will make a really great back drop to all the different colors of the flowers!!! I do really have to paint those basement doors! Our mason is coming back this year to do some more landscaping in the backyard, around the pool and to make a stone wall to terrace the yard a little, great platform for a gazeebo!!! I'll add some before, during and after pictures of the project as it gets going!
This weekend was spent preparing the vegetable garden! It is rather large and we have a lot of different plants going on back there, but there is nothing like running out to the garden for a fresh tomato or fresh herbs, and the corn last year was the best I have ever tasted (native New Englander, here!!!) even if I do say so myself!!
